Wayne Thiebaud was born in 1920 in Arizona. He did most of his paintings in the 1950's and 60's. The subject matter of his paintings is mostly baked goods such as pies and cakes. His work is a part of the Pop Art movement, but he painted during the very beginning of the movement. He typically uses brilliant colors and shadows in his paintings.

I really like the repetition and colors in his paintings a whole bunch. He has a very definite style that might get a little repetitive but the colors are super fantastic.
I agree with Lauren. This is simplistic subject matter, cakes, lipsticks, hats, but I just really admire the deftness of the style here, the parallel between cake frosting and think paint is clear. Teh lushness and glitz of liptsick comes across as well. Thiebaud is one fairly traditional painter who I'll always have a soft spot for. These are good images you;ve posted too.
